You can now set your language on the settings page to one of eight other languages: Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, French, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Korean. Several others are planned.

It currently uses AI translations. If I know you and you are a native speaker of one of these languages, please contact me to be a proofreader.

27 October, 2026:

Sedecology now has a blog! No more blogpost, one unified site for everything. And you can comment there too!

12 October, 2026:

  • Notifications were previously not working for the progressive web app, this has now been fixed. (In your mobile browser, go to sedecology and select "add to home screen".)
  • You can now import typings from a csv that was exported from the settings page. If you delete your account remember to export your typings first.

7 September, 2026:

You can now set your timezone on the settings page.

Also, it's easier than ever to schedule a typing session — just use the form here.

6 September, 2026:

Sedecology now has a progressive web app (PWA). Just go into your mobile browser menu and tap "Add app to home screen".

6 September, 2026:

I forgot to mention, spoiler syntax is like ~~this~~. Click the markdown help button on the comment and analysis forms for more information.

3 September, 2026:

Some updates:

  • Spoilers have been implemented (and the event feed respects them, so you no longer have to add filler characters)
  • Accents are now ignored while searching
  • The keynav bugs have now been fixed, and some mappings have been added (go to bottom of page, change subtype, change alternative subtype)

28 August, 2026:

New features:

  • Turn off notifications of different types
  • Filter more types of events from the feed
  • Comment and typing history are now displayed (only to the user who owns it, and mods)
  • Type square!

25 August, 2026:

The random color schemes have been updated, check them out!

23 August, 2026:

Also, comments on world-readable typings are not shown to logged-out users, nor are the usernames of people who liked a world-readable analysis.

23 August, 2026:

Notable subjects are now world-readable, and you can make your typings on them world-readable too. The previous "Everyone" privacy setting has been renamed to "All users" but is left unchanged - no existing typing visibilities are affected.

Previously, there was an option to set the visibility of a notable subject that you create to private or friends-only. This was not intentional and has been removed.

23 August, 2026:

Like buttons are now live. You can like comments or analyses. Editing an analysis does not affect its likes. When an analysis is cleared, its likes are hidden, not removed.

21 August, 2026:

In the past some people have asked me to delete their subjects on sedecology. I can't agree to do this because it would delete people's typings, analyses, and comments without their approval, and it would go against the purpose of the site which is to record, discuss, and compare typings of anyone. However, some time ago I came up with a compromise, which has now been implemented: public typings are no longer allowed on nonnotable non-user subjects (which in most cases represent people in the typology community or people that are known to the typer in real life). Users now also have the option to either allow public typings on themselves or not, which you can change from the settings page.

Some nuances:

  • The default for users is to allow public typings, so existing typings of users are unaffected. If you change it to disallow, all public typings will be set to friends-only.
  • It will not prevent you from typing yourself publicly if you wish.
  • Users who are known to have passed away will be set to disallow public typings.
  • Notable users will not have access to this setting, they can always be typed publicly.
  • The Popularity sort will no longer display subjects where public typings are disallowed (they get moved to the end).

A word on notability. "Famous" subjects are real people that have some kind of public presence, either actual celebrities or people who have put themselves out there in places like YouTube or Twitter (with their own accounts and not just via typing videos or typology forum posts), and who some people on the site may be typing based on that public material. Some more public socionists like Jack Aaron, Igor Weisband, Timur Protsky, etc. have also been set to Famous - this is probably a gray area but I will err on the side of considering people famous rather than not.

19 August, 2026:

You can now add your twitter/X username from the settings page (as well as twitter usernames on any subject you create).

19 August, 2026:

There was a bug where, if you changed the visibility settings at the top of the events feed, it would set your setting for "Show nonnotable subject typings to friends by default" from the settings page to no. The bug has been fixed; apologies for the error.

18 August, 2026:

With the help of Claude Code, many changes and improvements have been made, including design and aesthetics, security fixes, accessibility, and sorting and filtering for subject search results. Plus a much more usable mobile site!

If you previously hadn't changed any default settings (such as which typologies to show) this may have changed for you, so please check on the settings page if you're unsure. Existing friendships are not affected.

4 September, 2022:

You can now set subjects to be friends-only - for example for family members and people you know IRL. Friends-only subjects can only be typed by you (otherwise it would get complicated when you defriend someone).

Make a donation of at least $10 to support Sedecology (or, purchase Ibrahim's typing services) to be able to add an image to your profile! If you make a donation make sure to specify your username.

  • All past donators and typing clients have automatically been given this privilege (let me know if I missed you, especially if you donated before 2020). You can change the image any time you want from the settings page.

  • This feature will be available for a limited time only; in the future it will be made into a subscription feature. You are guaranteed at least 2 months if you make a donation now (or request a typing).

  • Images are not uploaded. Instead you must give an image URL and upload it yourself (e.g. to Google Drive, Dropbox, imgur.com, Facebook, etc.). (File hosting is somewhat expensive; I'm doing this partly to gauge interest in the feature.)

  • Normal rules apply: images cannot be NSFW, vulgar, offensive, etc. But feel free to make your profile image a doge or whatever else you want.

21 July, 2021:

You can now delete comments on your typings. No more need to delete and recreate the typing to clear the comments. Make sure to save the text of any comments you make on others' typings that you don't want to lose!

Thanks to the users who suggested these features.

21 July, 2020:

Subject popularity is now measured by number of typers, not typings. Using multiple typologies was skewing the rankings too much. (If you want to get back to the top, invite your friends :)
